Ms Lillian Mookodi is Associate Researcher in the Incomes, Welfare and Poverty Unit. Ms Mookodi has also worked for five years (2006- 2011) in the Ministry of Finance & Development Planning as a Poverty and Food Strategy Coordinator where her duties included: implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the National Strategy for Poverty Reduction (NSPR); coordination of poverty information systems and advocacy; production of periodic poverty reports and bi-annual bulletins; promotion of policy dialogue, best practices and consensus building.


Educational Background and Research Interests

MSc Development Economics and Policy (University of Manchester, UK) obtained in 2010; BA in Social Sciences- Economics and Statistics (University of Botswana) obtained in 2004. Research interests include poverty analysis and poverty reduction strategies/policies; employment; microfinance; child nutrition and growth; food Security; economic growth and development; and gender development.

  • Consultancy on the “Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority Customer Satisfaction Survey”. Client: BOCRA, Botswana. 2015
  •  Consultancy on theSocial Upliftment Diagnostic Study”. Client: National Strategy Office, Botswana. 2014
  • Collaborative Research Project on “Gender And Inclusive Growth: The Role Of Institutions In Promoting SME Growth In Mauritius And Botswana”- BIDPA; University of Botswana and University of Mauritius. Client; IDRC. 2013- 2015. Conducted a Situational Analysis of the SMEs in Botswana and contributed in the designing of the questionnaires; and collected data on the institutions, participated in qualitative data analysis; and to the Botswana Team report writing.
  • Consultancy on the Evaluation of the African Development Bank's 2004-2013 Assistance to Botswana. Client: African Development Bank. 2013. Contributed to a section on “Development strategies and policies in Botswana”.
  • Consultancy on the revision of National Policy on Gender and Development (2012). Client: Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs- Gender Affairs Department. 2012. Contributed on the revision and editions of the final report.
  • Consultancy on the study on the contribution of sustainable natural resource management to economic growth and poverty eradication and achievement of NDP 10 goals. Client: UNDP/MFDP. 2012. Contributed a section on “tourism, CBNRM and poverty eradication” for the discussion paper; and final report
