Detail

FOPRISA was a four-year programme (01 May 2005-30 April 2009) whose objective was to contribute to sound policies for the region’s development by assisting SADC in implementing its priority policies and measures, and improving the understanding of integration policy issues and enhancing research skills and analytical capacities in participating research institutions. It was a collaborative research process in which several Southern African policy research institutes and universities, the Chr. Michelsen Institute of Norway and the SADC Secretariat were participating.  The overarching objective of the programme was to provide inputs that could assist SADC in its efforts to advance regional co-operation and integration in Southern Africa, through formative process research, whose aim was to provide data and analysis for organisational learning, for example, for the improvement of SADC’s performance, operational approaches, procedures and mode of operation. It also aimed at building a strong regional policy research network, with research activities focused on improving the understanding of integration policy issues and enhancing research skills and analytical capacities in participating research institutes, as well as in the SADC structures. Funding was provided by the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Researchers:  Jonathan M Kaunda (coordinator) and SADC and E.U based networks.
