The purpose of the study was to identify, quantify and map investment oppotunities in district and town councils in Botswana. The study was commissioned by the Botswana Export  Development and Investment Authority (BEDIA), and its specific objectives were to:

  • Establish, discuss and list various potential natural raw materials that are found in abundance and can be exploited within the regions of Botswana.
  • Determine the raw materials that are exported in their raw form that can further be processed locally to generate downstream activities.
  • Identify investment opportunities in the form of value added industrial activities the raw materials could generate in the area, and support industries and services needed.
  • Engage various stakeholders and local authorities across the country to establish potential investment opportunities within their respective regions.
  •  Determine the minerals available in Botswana and, the mineral concessions that have been issued nationwide per region, the mineral permits held by the current concession holders, their advancement to exploration and mining and those who seek strategic joint venture partners.
  • Determine the surface and underground national water potential per region and the type of investment opportunities they can support.
  • Determine the investment opportunities within regions based on the procurement expenditure of major private establishments, government and local authorities.
  • Draw an action plan summarising all potential investment projects per district and town council for BEDIA.
